Meta demos Spark Open running locally via MLX, but the official config needs two M5 Ultra Mac Studios with 512GB unified memory each (or four 256GB units) linked over Thunderbolt 5 with RDMA. Every machine must hold the full NVFP4 checkpoint on its own disk. A reality check for self-hosting dreams: open weights do not mean runnable at home.
